Students at our Sixth Form and Academy of Sport had a lot to be pleased about when in came to academic performance in 2024. Outcomes went from strength to strength and our staff and students could not have been happier on results day as we celebrated together. A look at the table, above, shows the average grade for all subjects which effectively sums up how well our students performed. These results are particularly pleasing as our entry requirements allow for most students who are capable of studying beyond GCSE to do so and our range of subjects keep every career pathway and university course open to our students.
“Students enjoy life in the sixth form. It is a strength of the school.”- Ofsted
Over the last few years we have seen a big growth in numbers, largely due to the success, both on and off the field, of our Academy of Sport which attracts students from all over the North East and beyond due to the focus we put into academic and sporting excellence.
“Students in the sixth form learn and achieve well. They benefit from a well taught curriculum and are well prepared for their next steps in education, employment or training.”- Ofsted
Our students perform so well because of the excellent quality of education they receive and we are delighted that this was recognised in our most recent Ofsted report in December 2022. This is all the more pleasing as any Sixth Forms across the land often show an academic dip in performance when they grow at the rate we have over the last few years – something that is quite the opposite for Park View.
Sixth Form and Academy of Sport success is not just rooted in exam results. On the sporting arenas we are delighted to have been crowned English Elite Schools Champions in Women’s Football, English Colleges Champions in Men’s Football, have a very competitive Rugby Academy and boast cricketers, athletes, swimmers, rowers and netballers that are on the radar for their national teams. In terms of a comprehensive achievement in an array of sports, we believe we significantly overachieve on the national stage and could not be happy with the reputation we have secured over the last 5 years.
Outside of academics and sport, we have a deserved reputation for pastoral care and enrichment is a vital component of life in the Sixth Form. Undoubtedly, what makes Park View a special place to study, and indeed to work at, are the relationships that are formed between our students and our staff. Our staff work incredibly hard at forming these connections with all of our students and there is nowhere where this is more evident than in Sixth Form.
“Sixth form students play an important role in the life of the main school through mentoring younger pupils.”- Ofsted
Information, advice and guidance is excellent in the Sixth Form and in the Academy of Sport which means that our students move onto excellent progression pathways post 18. We are delighted to have students studying all over the world, including many at US universities and one student even managing to be accepted into Harvard- our first ever student. Students regularly obtain places at Oxbridge and Russell Group universities with an increasing number accessing degree and advanced apprenticeships when they leave at 18 too.
“(Sixth Form)Students receive individual guidance and support, and this allows them to successfully progress to a range of suitable destinations.”- Ofsted
In short, our students receive a very good deal when they choose to join our Sixth Form or Academy of Sport. Our support of the whole student and their lofty ambitions remain at the heart of our practice and is always something that drives our work and all that we do.
