Science Faculty Vision and Intent
As a department our vision is to educate and equip young people with scientific knowledge to enable them to explain the material world around them.
Students will learn about the key scientific concepts, laws, theories and models in the different sciences:
- cells and organisms, genes and evolution and ecosystems in Biology
- substances, matter and properties, chemical reactions and Earth in Chemistry
- energy, forces, waves and electricity in Physics.
During their time at Park View, students will learn what is is to be a scientist: to describe scientific processes; to explain scientific ideas; to compare scientific models; to evaluate scientific evidence and theories; to plan scientific methods and investigations; to calculate to solve scientific problems; to predict and justify scientific trends; and to make scientific conclusions. These will enable students to read, talk and write like scientists, and enable them to make informed decisions affecting themselves and their families, the wider community and society in general. Over time, students will encounter a greater variety of contexts in each science, with increasing depth and demand, so their knowledge of science is increasingly detailed, enabling them to connect together the big scientific concepts.
As a faculty we aim to share a passion for our subject, building support on an individual level to allow students and staff to succeed and achieve. Ensuring challenge in all we do to motivate and engage students to succeed in the world around them.
Above all we strive to create an inspiring environment which nurtures passion, engagement, aspiration, individuals and teams, pioneers and dreamers.
